Now I’ll share with you a simple but festive tradition we have in our home each St. Patrick’s Day…
a lucky Leprechaun breakfast!
In our house, St. Patrick’s Day is never an overlooked celebration. Since my hubby has some Irish roots, my boys grew up believing that they were full-blooded Irishmen and would have been seriously disappointed if those crazy Leprechauns didn’t show up with all their shenanigans! And even as they’ve grown, we still continue our holiday traditions…even though the Leprechauns have been instructed for some time now to no longer wreak havoc that requires cleaning! Since those rules have been in place, the only things the “Leprechauns” leave behind are some gold coins in the shoes of both boys…a fun and still appreciated tradition! But I do love celebrations so in the days leading up to March 17 I still like to serve up a holiday treat or two for my Leprechauns! It can be pretty simple and definitely fun to dress up a table with food you would ordinarily serve anyway…like breakfast! I’d love to share with you some whimsical inspiration for creating a St. Paddy’s Day breakfast that will definitely make your little Leprechauns have one lucky morning!
i love using breakfast food or after-school snacks for creating an easy but festive holiday treat! both categories allow almost endless options of prepared goodies to serve up making it practically effortless! and when you use prepared or semi-homemade items, it leaves you with a little more time to add some holiday decorations or special touches that will make “easy” look grand!
balloons…
for extra whimsy i used inflatable letters to spell out “lucky” across the front of the table filled with ordinary breakfast food. i love using balloons of all sorts…most often they’re very inexpensive and create a huge “bang” for very little! these came from Target stores last year and were sold as a set but now you can find letter balloons in most party stores and online! you might spend a bit more for these but the best thing is they’re reusable! just re-inflate by inserting a heavy plastic or paper straw in the resealable holes, blow them back up and hang…no helium required! (unless you want them to float!)
background…
i recycled an old window pane to make a unique backdrop for the table and simply embellished it with holiday gel-clings! a really sweet and inexpensive addition! i also draped it with a strand of fairy lights for some extra twinkle!
food…
of course for a St. Paddy’s Day breakfast the cereal of choice would HAVE to be Lucky Charms!
a bowl of oranges, and a pitcher of milk accompany the carby additions to the table…
it really doesn’t take much to add some holiday festivity to any treat. these cinnamon struesel muffins from the grocer are topped off with simple, inexpensive shamrock picks and look adorable!
and even though it’s not typically a breakfast food…i HAD to include a small bowl of chocolate coins!
St. Paddy’s sips…
it wouldn’t seem right not to have something green to drink for this holiday treat, so a pitcher of Gatorade in shades of shamrock stand in for the OJ!
diy…
you may have noticed the topper on the cereal jar…
this was really easy to make by deconstructing a St. Patrick’s Day headband! i just popped off the band…
and with a sharp knife added some slits to the bottom so it would slip tightly over the lid handle…
then just popped it on!
set the table…
for our holiday table i used a festive plastic tablecloth…and i don’t think you’re ever too old for rainbows! this cutie from Target will make for easy clean up since big boys somehow can still be as messy as little ones (maybe worse!)
a crate filled with party balloons mimics the rainbows and makes a really easy and colorful centerpiece!
and two shimmery shamrocks are tied to the chairs at the head of the table with a smidgen of twine. a lot of bang for a buck with these dollar store finds!
tiny additions altogether can make a wonderful celebration! use one idea, use all, or add a few more…celebrate however it works for you and your family!
a top of the mornin’ breakfast can be a fun way…
to make someone feel Lucky!
have a Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
