I hope you enjoyed seeing the shopping excursion we had on our family getaway…and I’m continuing on this week with a common theme: New York! There’s so many wonderful sights and sounds in the Big Apple…I can only scratch the surface! One thing that surprised me on our visit was how comfortable it felt to be there. Even through all the hustle and bustle, it was still somehow comforting, as though we had lived there all along. It was easy to keep bearings so it felt as though we totally knew where we were going…most of the time! I was also shocked at how certain areas of the city were so NOT crowded…like we could be walking in a downtown neighborhood almost anywhere! But no matter where we were, or how many people were around, there was ALWAYS something fun to see or experience! And though much of the scenery is a familiar sight for most, actually being there and seeing it for real is something that I can’t quite totally describe! So that said, let me show you NYC from my perspective!
“i want to be a part of it…”
when we decided to take this quick trip, we knew we’d be severely limited by time. so we all came up with our own “hit list” and we took the top 3 from each to be fair! not surprising that some of our lists were practically identical which made it easy to see almost everything! one place at the top–Central Park! we were so lucky to stay very near so each day began with a coffee followed by a morning stroll! i LOVED all the carriages which were everywhere!
stopping for a cool drink…
we were all astounded by all the rock formations. some big…
and some small…but plenty of them!
just so many areas of tranquility right in the middle of busyness!
so fun to see all the natural beauty…but we also spied fountains, playgrounds, amusement areas, and baseball fields too!
…which left us with plenty of photo opportunities!
we weren’t very far from Times Square either so we got to spend a fair amount of time there as well!
we were all expecting the area to be much larger…and concluded that it must be completely & insanely congested during the New Year’s Ball Drop! but we loved it anyway!
and then off to the Empire State Building…how exciting to have it within sight!
once inside all we could think of was “Elf”…our favorite holiday movie!
but Christmas aside…time to head to the top for the most stunning views!
it’s a LONG way down!
and this cute fellow flew in to say “hi”! how lucky he is to gaze upon this sight every day!
a park in the sky…
another good friend told me to try to make time to see The High Line…and like visiting ABC Carpet & Home, i’m so glad we took her advice! it was so fun to walk the paths of this park built upon a historic freight rail line in Manhattan’s West Side. once again, the combo of nature and art right in the middle of the city is SO awesome!
and along the way–food vendors! we had to stop for a sweet treat!
how about this for a frozen sandwich? snickerdoodle with cinnamon ice cream…yum!
another whimsical High Line sight…artist Kathryn Andrew’s sculptures. i’m partial to this one…not only is it pretty funny but it sprays water at passers by!
some familiar sights…
Radio City Music Hall
Rockefeller Center
nyc is so fun at night!
a little more celebrating in Times Square…
in memory…
we all wanted to see the new One World Trade Center and of course the 911 memorials…
a very lovely display in memory and so many there to reflect and pay respect…
and a walk to Battery Park where we got to see Lady Liberty before the weather decided it was time for downpour! it was the best photo i could get…but still impressive to see!
even though all the familiar landmarks are impressive to see in person, some of my favorites were still the everyday happenings and sights of the city in action!
wonderful architecture…
tour buses!
honking cars and cabs…
people everywhere…
elaborate shop windows…
AND food trucks!
of course, we HAD to partake…
…and then it was gone!
endless enchantment everywhere…
