A “cheesy” skeleton charcuterie might sound silly…but it’s a perfect snack for Halloween!  Not-so-spooky AND delicious, this easy platter will be sure to please!  Guests of all ages won’t be able to resist smiling back at this grinning ghoul.  The best part is that he’s so simple to make it’s almost like holiday magic!  Today I’d like to share some whimsical inspiration for setting up a ghoulishly good treat table.  No bones about it!

one of the best things about halloween is the opportunity to get a little spooky, goofy or wherever your mood takes you!  that includes snacking…

when setting a table, stacking a mix of everyday dishes & holiday plates looks pretty, helps the budget, and is super easy…that’s something to crow about!

using the linen napkin under the plates is an effortless way to add pattern and texture to a simple setup!

don’t worry if you don’t have a halloween tablecloth either.  mine is actually a fabric remnant i purchased years ago…

decor tip:

you can find lots of economical & whimsical fabrics to use as a substitute tablecloth.  but always check the remnant bins first…you might find the same materials plus unexpected pieces like gauzy fabrics or faux fur that will fit a spooky theme!  AND they don’t have to fit the table perfectly.  halloween is a time to let imperfection shine!

a few pumpkins scattered about help fill up the table and just look cute while doing it!  herbs & blooms add a pop of color to an otherwise neutral color palette…

dressing up a charcuterie for holiday munching is easier than ever!  you can make cheese shapes with a silicon mold!

simply melting your cheese will allow you to press it into the form. when you pop it out you have a ghoulishly fun goodie!

look at the detail on the tootsies!  but you have to use the right cheese to get this look!

cheesy shape instructions:

always use a silicon mold.  if it has detail in it like the skeleton, you must use a semi-firm melting cheese such as mozzarella which is what i used.  it’s best to grate your own as some pre shredded varieties don’t melt well.  i also experimented successfully with gruyere, and butterkase cheese…but no matter what you choose, it’s wise to experiment to be sure melting doesn’t completely alter the texture of the cheese.   begin melting your cheese in 15 second intervals in the microwave stirring in between.  be sure not to over heat or it will burn.  once you can blend it with a spoon, pour or press spoon fulls into your mold.  (mozzarella will be more stretchy, gruyere will pour)  let the cheese cool and then pop it right out.  you may have to pat some of the oil off with a paper towel before placing on a platter to serve.  it’s meant to be whimsical so don’t worry about little imperfections!

since my platter wasn’t very wide, extra bowls of nibbles were in order!

there’s no rule that says all the food has to be ON the charcuterie!

and who minds a few extras…especially when they can look so simple & cute!
