A cozy holiday home is something that most of dream of at Christmastime. It’s a time of festive anticipation…but it can seem daunting and overwhelming too. I’d love to share some snapshots of my home this year and some tips and tricks I use to keep the decorating stress to a minimum! You can create a joyful holiday vibe while making it easier to execute. And by keeping some decor staples on hand, you can stretch the budget by reusing them from year to year. Whether you decorate one room or every space in your house…I’ll show you easy ways to do it! So let’s get on this little tour of my home and…
create some holiday cozy!
to make an impact in my living room, i like to concentrate on one main area. in this case it’s the mantle…
decor tip:
the lush mantle was created by layering several garlands together. i used command garland strips but because of the weight i hammered a tack into each for extra support. a little wood putty and a fresh coat of paint will cover that right up in january!
the layering gives a grand look to a rather simple design and is the highlight of the room (until the fresh tree goes up in december)
an unexpected color was introduced to compliment some new furniture. a simple bow can do wonders!
leftover strands of garland from the rocking horse are casually draped across framed wall art…
and a keepsake music box simply placed on a coffee table, alongside a candle & treats, makes a special & meaningful display.
you can highlight a candle by placing it in a bowl of faux greens, berries or pine cones. (just be safe and be sure it’s in a glass or metal container)
the lid of this candy dish looks a little like santa…a holiday stroke of luck!
a few favorites clustered on a coffee table, fuzzy throws and extra pillows will go a long way in creating cozy with ease!
and by grouping a collection in an urn or container, you can make them stand out in a unique way.
decor tip:
grouping and clustering like items will always create a bountiful display. you can place them on a tray, in a basket, or any container. think outside the box and shop your house for unexpected items that might work to showcase a collection. dispersing them inside a bookcase or built-ins is another way to display a collection together!
and sometimes something as simple as a pillow can add holiday charm in the easiest way. never over-think it!
ribbon details
my tiny sun room has minimal decor but still looks sweet. a garage sale figurine adorned with ribbon & greens is merely standing in the window sill…
and my regular decor gets embellished with, you guessed it, more ribbon!
it’s the easiest to embellish what you already have displayed!
decor tip:
try keeping a small container of ribbon bolts on hand (amazon has great affordable selections including the bolts of wired greens shown above) you can use these to embellish just about anything. it’s so simple to add and it’s a super economical way to bring extra holiday charm to your home! you’ll see it’s one of my favorite decor hacks!
where we dine…
the dining room is my next favorite to deck! we’ll enjoy many celebratory meals including the thanksgiving feast so here’s my compromise for now…
more ribbon frames the buffet topped with a tool box filled with bottlebrush trees (which i’ve reused in different spaces the last 3 years in a row!)
and my china cabinet is simply draped with garland and bells…
it’s a great place to tuck in more holiday treasures…
and a simple detail can add so much charm…
straws are a fun and inexpensive way to dress up a beverage cart!
and items i’m planning on using can serve double duty as decor!
a tiny wreath looks sweet on the door leading to the kitchen. simple but so cute!
into the kitchen…
you might find yourself in the kitchen a lot in december. you can enjoy that cozy christmas vibe without going all out!
you might have noticed that one of my favorite decor items is garland & greens. i love how they can make an area look festive without hard work!
a simple ribbon once again ties in an unexpected color and adds effortless charm…
a diy advent calendar temporarily takes the place of my message board and is casually draped with another small garland…
and it doesn’t get much easier than tucking berry picks into windowsill herbs! hanging above are cookie cutters strung onto a tension rod!
decor tip:
try stocking up on tiny garlands and picks. (post christmas sales are a great time to grab extras) these holiday staples are often inexpensive, easy to work with, and the decor mileage they provide is limitless! i keep a basket full of random pieces to tuck here and there. when the holiday is over, they all go right back into that basket until next year! the easiest!!
an oversized, shatter-free ornament gets highlighted in a wreath. a fun & easy bow alternative!
last but not least…where sugarplums dance!
it’s completely understandable that decorating bedrooms might seem like a lot of work that most won’t see. but a touch in a room for guests can be appreciated and still simple to do…
but if you want to experience magic before you close your eyes, it can be the ultimate in cozy!
and never underestimate candlelight! it’s truly the easiest and oh so enchanting at any time of year!
whether you go big…or keep it simple. i hope some of my tips and ideas might help you this season
create a cozy holiday home!
