A Faux Living Wreath!

A faux living wreath might sound strange…but  it’s a fun alternative that’s maintenance free!  Inspired by living succulent wreaths, this DIY can withstand sun, shade and zero watering.  You don’t need many supplies to make this cheerful decoration either.  And with the right faux materials it will withstand all the elements of the outdoors making it fun to hang on a garden gate, shed, or your door!  If you’re intending on giving it a garden flair…some mini yard ornaments will be a happy addition too!  Let’s get creative decorating our outdoor spaces!

faux fun with succulents!

a simple grapevine wreath is an economical base.  the rest is all up to you and what your faux preferences are!

this is what i used…

15″ wreath

3 stems assorted faux succulents (plastic)

4 stems assorted faux “filler” flowers (plastic)

1 small bag moss

2 mini garden ornament mushrooms

hot glue gun

i find it helpful to have all the supplies gathered on my work table.  a basket of moss keeps most of it tidy while working…

you should consider plastic flowers which will withstand moisture and sun fade.  luckily, there’s a great, cost-saving selections available in craft stores!

for a medium sized wreath, just one statement bloom is sufficient.  a couple smaller succulents to tuck in are all that you’ll need!

be sure to trim the tiny flowers ahead.  little steps like this make the diy go so much more smoothly!

once your glue gun is hot, hang or prop up your wreath so you can begin inserting the goodies…

if you’re using garden ornaments, simply wedge them into the vines along with any larger blooms.  then glue them in place…

now you can start embellishing…and there’s no right or wrong!  i began with moss, followed with the smaller blooms.

diy tip:

when gluing the moss to the wreath, try to press it into the gaps in the vine. this will help it stay in place if it should get saturated with rain. if you keep the wreath outdoors, you may need to add a little more moss over time but it should withstand most weather conditions.
