A groovy decade party is such a fun theme for guests of all ages! And it was just what my family needed this summer to celebrate being with friends again. During the dog days of the season we had some 1970s fun at our house…and because the music of the decade is so fabulous, the teenagers participated too! Simple but festive 70s decor, treats, and of course, great tunes made this little summertime soiree feel like a real bash! We kept it simple by having guests each bring an appetizer to share and that gave me more time to concentrate on all the fun stuff without worrying about all the food. And when I refer to the fun, I mean the decor! A blend of flower-power with a touch of disco is how I decorated…and I’m excited to share the simple ideas and party tips with you today…
let’s celebrate 70s style!
summertime is perfect for outdoor parties…but sometimes heat wreaks havoc! planning to keep the food inside made it easy to decorate the buffet with simple balloons & DIY flowers and keep the treats cool & away from insects!
party tip:
use painters tape to safely adhere decorations to most surfaces. it won’t damage your mylar balloons so you can use them for many parties to come!
i kept the goodies simple: homemade desserts along with purchased ones helped me set up a festive array of deliciousness.
party tip:
try using taco holders as a display for custom cookies! it’s a fun way to show off the darling designs!
you might remember my candy charcuterie…it’s such a delicious way to create something special & unexpected for any occasion!
since the food was served indoors, i wanted to add extra decor to the inside spaces. scattering balloons across the mantle did the trick for little effort and expense! a big bang for tiny buck!
let’s move outdoors…
rain was in the forecast so a groovy shower curtain intended for a photo backdrop was repurposed to help keep the patio dry should showers pop up! extra balloons tied to a floral garland was easy to create and looked festive draped over the top!
clear shower curtains were cut to fit and hung behind the buffet. tape dots & paper shapes added extra flower-power charm…
(it did end up raining that night and they worked perfectly to keep the patio pretty dry.)
i had a little fun with the signage too…i don’t think i’ve written in bubble letters since the 7th grade!
ice buckets were scattered about to hold an array of beverages…
i couldn’t resist the hard seltzers in the retro, tie-dyed cans! perfect for this party theme…
party tip:
remember to take a stroll down the grocer beverage isles before your next celebration. there’s such a huge selection now and plenty of great bottle & can designs that might fit your theme or color palette!
simple snacks are great to keep on any drink station. and cute napkins serve as a useful decoration!
since there were young people attending, plenty of sodas were on hand. mini beach balls were a whimsical addition to the kid-friendly drink area…
a creative centerpiece…
a vintage pop crate & vintage collector bottles made a fitting centerpiece for the table…
adding a single bloom to a few empty bottles effortlessly turned this rustic box into a colorful table decoration…
i hope you found some fun inspiration from our little soiree that you might use for your next celebration!
summer fun isn’t done…
just yet!
