A Key West party theme is a fun & festive way to celebrate summer! The mood is laid-back and the decor can be a casual blend of rustic, kitschy and tropical. When I think of Key West what comes to mind are sunset hues, driftwood & shells, flip flops, key lime, the iconic totem pole AND margaritas! You can relax and have fun with this theme because anything goes! I’m excited to share some of the ways my family celebrated with friends on a balmy summer eve. You might find some seasonal inspo that will help you create a tropical vibe for your next gathering. It’s always 5 o’clock somewhere…
raise a glass to margaritaville!
giggle living may have received payment and/or product. however i only endorse products i love and all opinions are my own.
creating an inviting atmosphere CAN be easy to do. just make it a comfortable place guests will want to linger…
gather goodies from around the house to help decorate and don’t forget faux plants like this tiny one tucked onto the table…
and a simple tea towel adds a tropical vibe under some mis-matched bowls of fresh fruit!
i mentioned faux plants…faux blooms work great too! they add a pop of tropical color to this potted plant which also holds a stake for the umbrella!
decor tip:
you can often find summer accessories deeply discounted as early as late june to make room for fall! search the clearance sections for faux summer flowers, party decorations and household goodies with a tropical flair! most of what you’ll see in this post was purchased at 50-90% off!!!

simple parties can still look amazing! keep your decorations clustered in a few areas to make a bigger impact…
the mileage totem is actually a DIY project my hubby & I made. it looks impressive but was really affordable & pretty simple to create!
decor diy:
handmade projects will take a little pre-planning but it can be worth it. this mile marker sign was made by purchasing a few 1×4 boards at a home improvement store. we cut them and weathered them outside for a few months before painting the markers. then we just screwed them onto an old pole leftover from my boy’s play fort. it can pay off to forage and/or plan ahead to create a fun, affordable party props for special celebrations!
an old pail & shovel, an ore and sailboats that belonged to my boys came from my house and worked perfectly…
simple garlands of fabric looked pretty blowing in the breeze and were also cheap to make!
a tent with a baby pool offered guests a place to dip their toes in the water! whimsical and fun! the kids hung out here most of the evening!
time for a sip!
drink stations can be so fun to create! i like to concentrate decorations here for an impact that gets noticed!
along with the florals, little details will add lots of charm! i fell in love with the wine labels…
so a tiny cocktail umbrella was tied to each bottle! looks so cute and was super easy!
a small cooler with clean ice is a must for keeping drinks cold on a hot day!
and labels, while not mandatory, always make a pretty party detail!
grass table skirting from the party store is a great way to cover unsightly tables in tropical style…
you can use leftover pieces to cover other things too…like the non-removable frame on the margarita machine! it’s key west…perfection not required!!
an inflatable drink cooler (also a clearance find) made another whimsical addition to hold extra cold drinks in festive fashion…
easy extras!
little details always come together to make a big impact. they can also be full of unexpected fun like a bucket full of bubbles…
beachy vibes using summer essentials decorated the back entrance where guest enter to get food…
potted plants were adorned with dollar store finds…
and collected spanish moss spilled from crates full of faux blooms…
summer nibbles…
in hot weather, i don’t worry about setting up pretty food tables outdoors. all the food was served inside, but trays of sweets can be carried out for late night nibbling…
key lime bars, strawberry margarita truffles and cinnamon sand dollars fit the margaritaville theme!
and appetizers were plenty too! guests could grab a plate and go mingle!
cheers to margaritaville…
i hope you found some inspiration because…
