On our recent trip to DC, a quick stop into an eatery for lunch turned into an experience above expectation! Not only was the food absolutely delicious but the marketplace–filled with Italian meats, cheeses, wines, and sweets–was a treat in itself! I adore snooping through shops like this one…and the only thing disappointing was that we don’t have one near us! Before my browsing, I was treated to a freshly made sandwich topped off with piles of olive tapenade and roasted peppers! And after completely gorging myself I really needed the “exercise” of shopping so I could make room for what else? Gelato of course! So today I’d like to share this fun little market…and if you’re ever in Arlington, VA–a stop at The Italian Store is highly recommend!
a little Italy…
just stepping through the doors of this shop…i knew it would be a treat! i had plenty of time to nose around since the food-counter menus were loaded with choices to keep my family busy ordering…and eating! so while they pondered over the choice of pizzas or subs–i took a little stroll…
so much to see! maybe a little pasta to take home?
gnocchi…
wonderful displays of goodies…from breads to meats & cheeses…
and of course–wine! plenty of choices to suit any meal! i have to admit i love the fresh flowers…a beautiful touch!
and i couldn’t forget the sweets–so many intriguing desserts to go…
and everyone’s favorite…gelato! not only tasty–but fab colors too!
my family sampled several flavors…and the top pick was salted caramel. i however, simply HAD to try the lavender! and even though the flavor was definitely unique…the tiny scoop with several tasting spoons didn’t last long!
if you ever head to Arlington make a trip to The Italian Store…or check the link to read more about them!
