“Batty” for Halloween!

It’s officially October!  The sky has a different look about it and the breezes are becoming a little nippy…this can only mean that it’s time to go all out with holiday decor!  I rarely wait until October to begin a little of my Halloween decorating…but once the calendar flips it somehow seems o.k. to go all out!  And even though I love Halloween, as my kids have gotten older I find it’s easier to decorate without having to haul out EVERY Halloween decoration we own!  When they were little they would notice if “Mr. Bones” wasn’t hanging in the same tree, or if each and every paper bat made in class wasn’t prominently displayed!  But now it’s easier to simplify my displays…’cause we all know that what goes up eventually must come down!  I was totally inspired by the Halloween photos I shared of the darling decorations created by my mom’s friend…and I went a little batty this year!  And since we have a real bat that pays our back yard a visit each night…it seemed fitting for the holiday.  Take a peek at how I let my home take Halloween flight!

simply batty…

bats are such a great choice for Halloween since they’re plentiful in shops and many are made from paper making them pretty inexpensive too!  of course you can also make your own keeping costs even lower…i chose to save a little time this year and bought some.  these are from a Martha Stewart kit…

tags from Ikea simply tied to a pumpkin…counting the days ’til the 31st!

the bat kit (from Michaels) had several in it so i was able to spread them around a bit…

my favorite spooky lady in the frame got center-stage on the buffet this year!  by poking her eyes out with an ice pick (that doesn’t sound gruesome!) and taping some fairy lights to the back she now has an eerily glowing stare!

my dollar bin pumpkins are simple & sweet…and they WERE cheap but don’t look it!

in the sun room i love to keep it fun & whimsical.  a simple paper bat garland hangs on the fireplace…

this cute marquee skull lights up the room!  i got this one at Michaels but many craft stores carry them now

and foam craft bats from the dollar store easily add a touch of “spooky” to the room!

more batty friends!

i found these fabric & wire bats at an antique shop.  i think they were just for their displays but the clerk sold me some anyway…it never hurts to ask!

thought they’d be adorable hanging from this old guy…

from the DOLLAR STORE…these cuties have eyes that kind of blink!  so cute!

let’s take it outside…

i normally take the curtains on my porch down in October…but this year i decided to use them to my advantage!  as they blow they sort of remind me of ghosts…so i decided to decorate them!  since bats were the main theme i wanted to attach them to the curtains but needed something that would resist the weather.  foam was the answer!  the dollar store bat shapes (the same ones from inside) came 20 to a pack–for $1 you can’t beat the price and they can go anywhere…

i love the way they look like they’re fluttering about when the curtains blow…

most of my decorations were made from paper…or inexpensive craft foam!  go batty–and whip up some EASY Halloween!

it’s time to get some spooky on!
