I love DIY projects…especially when they involve candy! Today I want to share an adorable craft that the whole family can take part in…and if you wish, actually eat afterward! I can’t take credit for the idea…this was something that my mom and I discovered while rummaging through the endless yard sales this past summer. I don’t even know who to give credit since this sweet little creation was purchased from one of the many, many vendors along the Ohio stretch of Highway 127! But it’s adorable, creative, fun, and would be a tasty treat to top any gift or just give as a favor for all the younger humans in your life! And even though my boys might have outgrown the excitement of receiving this treat, they’ll still have fun making them to hand out to all the littler kiddos who visit our home this holiday season! Take a peek and…
get creative with candy!
when we wandered upon a vendor at the yard sales selling some adorable cars, trucks, and trains made from candy …i just had to buy one! i wanted to remember the idea and use it for a festive favor for a child…maybe even a replacement for a bow on a gift! either way, i thought the idea was fabulously fun! all you need is an array of some wrapped candy pieces…if you’re lucky enough to have some leftovers from Halloween you may be set already! if not, a trip to the party store is a nice choice since you can buy them by the piece and can get just the amount you want. of course bags of candy work too…especially if you want to indulge on the remaining sweets!
all you need now is a glue gun. i like the low temp kind especially if kids are helping (or if you have a knack for getting your own fingers in the glue…like me!)
my favorite candy vehicle was the train! the body was made from a roll of Life Savers and peppermints for the wheels…the rest of the engine could be made from whatever you like! small squares such as Starburst candy or mini chocolate bars can be assembled to make the top. it’s just like building blocks…have fun and get creative!
they’re easy to make…and no right or wrong! i do love the Hershey’s Kiss for the smokestack!
and that’s all it takes to make an adorable treat for any celebration! kids could even make their own at a birthday or classroom party…a fun craft for sure!
some might find their way onto our gingerbread house display this year…maybe we’ll make a gingerbread train depot?
but for now, this little guy found his way onto a package…
