Cider and doughnuts go hand-in-hand during autumn if you ask me! Especially those delicious apple cider and cinnamon sugar pastries that seem to be calling for tummies to rumble everywhere! One of my most anticipated activities is visiting the apple orchard to grab up some sweet cider and goodies from the bakery! It’s something that makes fall so special to me! And since my family eats a fair share of autumn inspired doughnuts, I thought I’d create a DIY serving stand so I could dish out one of our favorite sweets throughout the season and beyond! So let me share this simple craft project with you along with a fun way to serve up…
spooky cider & doughnuts!
a super stack of deliciousness is so easy to create! here’s how…
what you’ll need:
unfinished wood, pillar candle holder (approximately 3 1/2″ wide and 4-5″ tall)
6-12″ wooden dowel (1/4″ thick)
drill with large drill bit
construction adhesive
sand paper
primer & paint
let’s craft!
first you’ll need to be sure your drill bit is as large as the dowel. then gather your supplies together…
find the center of the candlestick and carefully drill a hole approximately 1/4″ deep…
get your construction adhesive ready but be sure the dowel fits snug inside before using any. i prefer working with small tubes of adhesive. they’re easier to handle & less expensive than the large, professional ones but work exactly the same!
squirt some adhesive into the hole…
and press the dowel firmly down inside. this particular adhesive sets quickly so wipe off the excess and wait for it to dry. don’t worry about any blemishes in the wood or excess glue at the base, it will be covered with paint later!
once dry, just sand it, prime it and paint in your favorite color! all that’s left is to stack up the goodness!
i made a slit in the center of a coffee filter & threaded it over the dowel to create a clean barrier between the painted surface and my treats. you could varnish your piece with food-safe shellac but i also love the ruffles that the filter creates!
a single tray does the work to hold this fall treat of cider sips and doughnuts…
how fun are these skull glasses for a Halloween touch? I was so thrilled to find these grinning guys!
a not-so-spooky addition to my spooky cider snack!
i scattered some pretty lady apples around the tray for another seasonal touch…
as well as slicing them for a garnish! the size is just too cute AND they’re sweet for eating!
i also used them in the centerpiece…which is just a pot filled with granny smith and lady apples with tufts of herbs tucked in! you can use floral oasis in the pot to keep the greens fresh!
a simple snack that can bring such simple joy!
lots of grins for cider & doughnuts AND a simple DIY!
enjoy the sweet flavors of the season!
