Yesterday was National Ice Cream Day so I sure hope you got a chance to celebrate by indulging on some icy treats! I’m happy to say that my family got to enjoy the “holiday” by making one of our all-time favorite flavors…cinnamon! We were inspired to experiment and create this family favorite after visiting a tiny ice cream shop near my family’s farm in Indiana…the same shop that my mom frequented when she was young! They had a flavor that my mom loved as a kid and now my kids do too…so we were determined to try and replicate it the best we could since we couldn’t find anything quite like it in the stores! Not only does this ice cream taste delicious and look divine, but I love the nostalgia which makes it an extra special treat each time we fire up the ice cream maker! Today I’d like to share with you the recipe for our version of the parlor favorite…so let’s churn up some fun!
we all scream…for cinnamon ice cream!
if you love ice cream and like to experiment with flavors, i’d highly recommend picking up an ice cream maker! they’re so plentiful now and they’re practically effortless to use! we happen to love our Cuisinart maker…it has a removable bowl that we keep in the freezer at all times so it’s ready to whip up a batch of ice cream at the drop of a hat!
a basic ice cream recipe only requires simple ingredients which makes it easy and inexpensive! i’ll have the printable recipe for this one at the end of the post!
mix up the milk and sugar…
add the cream and flavorings…
i love this cinnamon concentrate for flavoring! just a few drops will give the ice cream a pop of unexpected flavor…
to make our batch look just like the one sold at the ice cream shop…pink food color! add as much or as little as you want to create something pretty in pink!
pop the already chilled bowl on the mixer…
drop in the paddle, set the lid on and pour in the pink goodness!
and 20-30 minutes later…
it’s time to dish up some goodness!
so National Ice Cream Day may have passed~but it’s summertime and…
EVERY day can be ice cream day!
enjoy!
- 1 Cup whole milk
- 3/4 Cup granulated sugar
- 2 Cups heavy cream
- 1-2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 4-6 drops concentrated cinnamon or 1teaspoon cinnamon extract, or to taste
- 2-3 drops pink food coloring
- In a medium bowl, use a hand mixer or a whisk to combine the milk and the sugar until the sugar is dissolved, about 1-2 minutes
- Stir in the heavy cream, vanilla, cinnamon and food color. Taste between additions of cinnamon.
- Pour into the frozen bowl of the ice cream maker and churn for 20-25 minutes or until cream has set up. (it will be more like soft-serve consistency right from the churn, but will set hard in the freezer)
- Place ice cream in airtight container and keep in the freezer until ready to serve.

Thank You for this recipe! I just bought a cuisinart ice cream maker and was looking for pink cinnamon ice cream, which is served, at a regional restaurant, with Apple pie! I can’t wait to make this!
