So it’s time to make those last holiday cookies to indulge on…or maybe leave out for the Big Man! Even though we have PLENTY of sweets to eat around here, I just don’t think my holiday would be the same without some freshly baked & decorated Christmas cookies…making the kitchen smell heavenly as well as “sprinkled” with adornments that should be on the cookies but somehow end up just about everywhere else! That’s how I like my kitchen to be in the days before Christmas eve! This year I found some new cookie cutters that I just couldn’t resist! And though we’ll still make some trees, stars, or reindeer…I thought the boys would have a little fun with a twist on the gingerbread men. See the whimsical addition to our traditional cookies…

even though they’re for a twist on gingerbread men the boys decided they’d rather have good old sugar cookies…so that’s what we whipped up instead!
who wouldn’t giggle at the sight of these guys on the cookie platter?
now, i can tell you that our cookies didn’t end up looking like the ones on the box…but no matter, making holiday cookies is a family tradition and the decorations look perfect in my mind whatever the final result might be! and since royal icing isn’t favored much by my kids we only attempted to make a few look like the ninja examples on the packaging. shockingly, it IS as hard as it looks to make picture perfect cookies! i have great admiration for those who can create those glossy, detailed beauties! most of our creations ended up being decked out in soft icing & sprinkles!
and as fun and “boyish” as the ninjas are…it wouldn’t be the same without some of the traditional type!
one thing i learned this year…i don’t have the patience for perfect cookies! simple & sweet is fine by me…and what really matters is who we bake them for! i can’t wait to put them on our holiday table for our Christmas Eve. guests! snowman, tree, and ninja–an uncommon holiday trio…
