A breakfast buffet is a wonderful way to start the day…especially on the first day back to school! If you’ve got kiddos headed to the classroom it can be an exciting and also nerve-wracking time! A really fun way to calm those nerves OR add to the thrill is to serve up something out of the ordinary for breakfast! Check out this first-day-back setup that’s filled with really easy goodies you can grab at the grocer…you may already have what you need right in your own pantry or in your child’s school supply bag! By adding some decorations inspired by the classroom an ordinary breakfast can be a welcome treat to celebrate the new school year! Let’s get some back to school inspiration…
a breakfast buffet earns an A for the day!
serving up a special breakfast can be such a fun tradition on the first day of school! and finding fun decor is easy this time of year! apples are a popular image when it comes to back-to-school themes so you really can’t go wrong with this one! but to change it up a bit, i decided to go green this year! a dessert stand topped with a handful of green apples makes a simple (and edible) centerpiece…table top decorations don’t always need to be spectacular to look spectacular!
a chalkboard is always fun to use for a back-to-school party…this one was embellished with vinyls from a silhouette and a DIY banner made with pages from a primary writing tablet & post-it notes!
easy DIY banner
i just cut out simple shapes from post-it sticky notes and green card stock. i used a paper garland as a template to create the banner from the writing tablet…and a glue stick was all i needed to attach it together! you might be able to raid the supply bag belonging to your kiddo to find the supplies you need!
and for the menu…apple cinnamon cheerios were perfect for this apple-themed table! i took the extra post-it notes and used them for food labels too!
it couldn’t have been easier to attach them to all the goodies…just write, peel, and stick!
but if you’re serving something cold completely dry off any condensation on the bottle or it might not want to stay put!
on one of my favorite cake stands from Amalfi Decor sits some apple streusel muffins! these semi-homemade treats made from a box mix with the addition of applesauce are a favorite of my boys…and they make the kitchen smell pretty darn good too!
DIY cake topper
i made some whimsical toppers by simply cutting some paper straws down to size and popping on a pencil eraser…couldn’t get any easier! just make sure if you’re serving to littles, they don’t pop them in their mouths!
grab-and-go beverages are perfect for a breakfast buffet so i used individual OJ containers! a really fun and effortless way to dress up the bottle is to tie on a paper straw!
substituting pom fringe for ribbon was a fun way to add some more whimsy to the table…not only is it cute but the poms sort of resemble little green apples!
and the inspiration that got this party off the ground…the little apple containers! these green and white apples are just right to hold the yogurt for…
make-your-own parfaits!
yogurt is also popular with my boys…so a breakfast buffet in our home wouldn’t be complete without parfaits! and since they’re being served up in apple containers the fruit of the day was…green apples! of course, if a tart apple isn’t right for you, you can always serve up something different! tiny, airtight containers were just the right size to hold the toppings…
what a fun way to make-your-own parfait for ANY breakfast or brunch table! you can see more breakfast buffet ideas here
a mouth-watering treat…and a healthy start to the morning!
so get your kids off to a great start with a breakfast buffet…
and they’ll have an A+ day!
