A doughnut celebration board sounds pretty good right? So how about making one for your next special occasion! I recently created a yummy platter for my son’s 18th birthday…and it was filled with one of his favorite treats…doughnuts! Grazing or charcuterie boards are so fun and trendy right now and they’re really easy to make too! They look pretty and allow you to serve a menagerie of treats so you can even please a crowd…when it’s safe to do so! But today we’ll focus on this sweet breakfast idea and how I made it fun for our family birthday festivities. This doughnut celebration board was a really fun surprise that started the birthday boy’s day off on a delicious note! Let me show you how easy it is to create one…
doughnut celebration board for a tasty birthday breakfast!
18 never looked so sweet!
to make any kind of grazing board you first need to get the goodies. i hit up some of our favorite doughnut shops & bakeries…
then decide what you want to display them on. i chose a large wooden appetizer board…but any platter or tray will work.
if your goodies might be sticky, i suggest using parchment paper to protect your tray. it will also make for an easier cleanup!
i began with the focal point…the number 18 made with an apple danish and two glazed doughnuts!
tip:
you can create other numbers or letters with doughnut holes OR substitute cut-out cookies, scones or sheet cake cut into whatever shape you need!
then i began making clusters of goodies around it…
mini waffles added texture…and the two clusters in the corners gave my platter a tiny bit of symmetry.
now start filling the platter. if you have a focal point, keep the other goodies in different sizes or shapes so that it will stand out among them.
my son is an avid milk drinker…and what washes down a doughnut better? so i added some bottles to my mix…
here’s a fun & easy way to jazz them up…
just save out a couple extra minis and grab a few festive straws or treat sticks…
and simply skewer the doughnut onto the straw…
tip:
if you intend to use the straw for drinking, be careful of the doughnut cake that will be stuck inside. for little kiddos you might want to put a second drinking straw in the milk bottle to prevent a choking hazard.
there’s not many things cuter than a doughnut on a pretty straw!
keep filling in your board or platter until all the big gaps are covered!
you could add fruit to fill in the tiny spaces if you wish…but i decided to keep this one all pretty pastries!
there’s no right or wrong when making a grazing board!
some simple decorations…which by chance looked like colorful doughnut holes…made this fun breakfast extra festive!
sweet birthday wishes for a milestone day!
easy & delicious celebration!
