The Chinese New Year holiday is one that my family loves to celebrate! But like I mentioned on Monday…this week has been so jam-packed with holidays it about makes my head spin! But I couldn’t let this last holiday of the week go by unnoticed…especially since the celebratory food is one of our favorites! There’s really nothing easier than ordering out and there’s never any shame in doing so! If it means you have more time to decorate, relax, or just spend extra quality moments with your family and friends, letting someone else do the cooking once in a while is A-Okay with me! (besides, the cleanup is often easier too!) So since tomorrow marks the celebration of the Chinese New Year, I’m making it simple by serving up our favorite carry-out meal with the simplest decorations…but no less festive! Check out the super easy ideas and ring in 2018…
Chinese New Year style!
i’ve had these adorable “to go” boxes for years. i grabbed up a bunch on clearance and keep them handy for just such occasions! and these paper dragon puppets will add lots of color and festivity to the table without spending much on new decorations!
i set a really simple table with the take-out containers, a couple mini lanterns, pieces of a leftover paper garland, and the puppets tucked inside my little “to go” boxes!
the accordion dragons are held up by filling the mini boxes with dry rice! a perfect pantry fix!
two bright red tassels make a fun addition to a couple of the take-out boxes…i didn’t have enough for all, but it was just enough to brighten the table!
a simple way to add a pop of color to a plain container!
simple bowls, chopsticks or traditional utensils are all you need for a Chinese meal. you can also use paper products for even easier cleanup!
i filled another carry-out style container with extra grocery store fortune cookies for an edible centerpiece!
one of the best parts of a Chinese new year celebration!
there’s nothing much more fun than breaking open the little cookies to reveal the good fortune written just for you!
or eating them!
so call your favorite restaurant and order up your new year meal!

What a great and simple meal to celebrate! I love that you were able to reuse most of what you already had. That’s why I love having my basement “store” where I can shop anytime I need something fun. Great job those dragons are awesome.
