it doesn’t take a huge array of goodies either!  a small variety of cookies, baked OR purchased, some candy & nuts are the only items piled on this board!

our favorite shortbread cookies topped with cinnamon cream cheese icing were a fall must-have.  no fancy frosting technique…just a simple detail on the leaves made with a toothpick!

and on the squirrel, a hazelnut topped with a large baking chip makes for a delicious “acorn”!

to make the acorn:

to add the chip to the top of the nut, heat the back of a spoon with very hot water, touch the flat side of the baking chip to the spoon just until it begins to melt.  place the chip on the top of the hazelnut and you’ve got a tiny acorn that will make a sweet embellishment for any fall cookie or dessert!

if you’re serving cookies to your ghoulfriends or little goblins try filling up the gaps on the platter with halloween candy!  super easy AND delicious!

decorating tip:

i like to use Betty Crocker cookie frosting.  the consistency is just right for inexperienced decorators.  just be sure to let your first layer dry completely before adding any other designs or embellishments to the top.
