Still looking for some gift ideas? Or maybe just a project to do with the kids over the long holiday break? Either way, this DIY project is fun, easy, and useful! Earlier this year my mom brought me some lotion that her creatively gifted friend had made. It was so wonderfully scented and luxuriously creamy I used mine up rather quickly and had to find out how she made it! Well, it turned out to be a pretty simple recipe and I thought it would not only make wonderful gifts but a nice way to treat myself from time to time! So if you’re in need of some holiday favors, hostess gifts, or presents for under the tree…take a peek at this wonderful DIY project!
soothe those hard-working holiday hands!
i was so happy that this recipe was shared with me so i could make it for the holiday AND throughout the year! since you can add any essential oils or coloring that you like…you can make fabulous gifts for any season! you can also package this pampering lotion in any kind of container as long as it’s airtight. i spent an evening whipping some up…so let me share how easy this is! all you need is 3 ingredients (unless you want to add color or additional scents)…
16 oz baby lotion–8 oz vitamin E cream–8 oz coconut oil
Combine the baby lotion and vitamin E cream in a mixing bowl and set aside while you melt the coconut oil in a saucepan. it looks like lard when it’s solid–but smells much better! (you can find the vitamin E cream in most skincare isles and the coconut oil in the baking section)
once melted, cool 5 minutes then slowly pour the oil into the mixer beating constantly. don’t worry if it looks like curdled milk at first…it WILL get creamy as it continues to beat!
(wash the mixer with hot, sudsy water so the next time you make cookies they won’t taste like soap!)
find some simple glass containers…
and fill ’em up!
i actually only made half the recipe…it was still enough to fill 3 small mason jars! i also didn’t add any essential oils or color this time…i think the white looks pretty for Christmas and it smelled so yummy just the way it was! the baby lotion gives it a soft, clean scent combined with a hint of the coconut…love it!
these plastic, twist-on jar lids are great! they make it easier to open and close than a lid with a ring and also come in small & wide-mouth sizes.
but since these are gifts i wanted to spruce them up a bit before delivery! i chose some simple parchment paper to cover the lids…but any paper or fabric would be super cute too!
i just folded the baking sheet in quarters and found a small plate to trace…
take a parchment circle and press it over the top of the lid so that it folds slightly around the jar…
then use a rubber band to hold it in place while you tie a ribbon or string to hold it tight…just snip off the rubber band when you’ve got it all tied up!
i wanted them to look cheerful for the holiday so i attached an artificial sprig and a jingle bell…
fun to make, fun to give…
fun to receive!
Happy Holiday DIY!
