My youngest absolutely loves hard boiled eggs…he could eat them by the dozen! So when I stumbled across this hard-boiled egg mold in the shape of a skull–you know I couldn’t resist! I know it appears like perhaps I live at Home Goods…but I really don’t go there all that often. However, when I do make a trip I tend to really snoop around for all the little goodies they have tucked here and there…and ALWAYS keep my eyes open in the impulse isle! I know it’s a trap–but I usually find an inexpensive treasure and it is indeed where I found this little guy! Not only will it be fun to make a favorite healthy snack…it’ll look darn cute for the holiday too! Take a peek at my “eggcellent” favorite find…
hard-boiled Halloween!
so this funny box caught my eye in the checkout isle at Home Goods…
i love this guy! they had chicks too with plastic feet to insert at the bottom…so cute for Easter! but since it’s time for Halloween the skull was the only choice for me! so once home it was time to start experimenting to see how easy it was to use! i hard-boiled some eggs and peeled them one at a time to keep them warm as long as possible after cooking. the mold was really easy to use…
just lay the warm egg in, snap it shut, and dunk in an ice bath! (after my first egg exploded through the sides…i found it worked nicely to GENTLY press the mold closed to avoid blow-outs!)
i also experimented with the time in the ice…the longer it was in the cold the better the impression–however, none looked quite as good as the one on the box of course! and don’t be surprised if there’s a little egg-squish on the sides…
they pop out easily…
and you can clean up the edges by gently rubbing the excess off with your fingers…
what an adorable after-school snack…or how cute to place a few on a holiday appetizer tray!
if you can’t find this guy at Home Goods…he’s only a couple dollars more directly from fredandfriends.com! not to mention you might find all kinds of goodies on that site…so check it out!
happy skull egg mold–my holiday favorite!
