Cinco De Mayo is coming up soon and while I often times try to add some fiesta fun to some snacks or meals for my family, I don’t normally decorate my home for the holiday. I might add some party supplies to serve up a treat or create some whimsical tabletop decor for our May 5th meal…but I’ve honestly never given much thought to decorating beyond that! Since there’s almost two weeks until the celebratory day, I decided to fill the empty space on my dining room buffet with a little Cinco De Mayo fun! Just like the end of any holiday, my rooms seemed a bit bare after the Easter decorations were packed away! And though I don’t want to smother my spaces with pinatas and streamers (unless I’m having a party!) I did think it might be nice to create a simple display with understated touches of a traditional fiesta! Let me share with you how I decorated my dining room for the holiday and incorporated those decorations into a family snack to get us excited and inspired for the 5th of May!
Cinco De Mayo decor, and more…
i decided to decorate my empty buffet with some simple items that look festive for the holiday but didn’t put my room into fiesta overload! i LOVE paper doilies (you might be seeing more of them this week!) and love that you see them so often incorporated into Cinco De Mayo decor! you can buy packs of assorted sizes at the dollar store so you really can’t go wrong choosing these fun paper products! i covered the mirror over my buffet with garlands of these paper pretties…and i love the lacy look! in front i used a garden planter and simply tucked varieties of cactus and succulents down inside. i didn’t even re-plant them because some were fake! i just placed the little pots of the real varieties inside and covered them with the artificial greenery…
i also filled the opening of this vintage planter with more artificial greens and some paper flowers…
and another porcelain rooster (that normally sits in my kitchen) looks really pretty perched on a pedestal with a few more flowers and greens simply scattered around the base. such a simple way to highlight a favorite figurine and i love the white roosters for a quieter version of fiesta decor!
some candlesticks and tea lights make beautiful, soft light in the evenings! i found the candelabras at a thrift shop and updated them with coat of spray paint!
it’s so easy to add pops of color to any decor with tissue tassels! i tied in some greenery by simply attaching a silk leaf to each tassel with a sticky dot…
and on my table i made a DIY runner with the leftover doilies!
such an easy way to create a runner…just by layering them down the table!
the little succulent pots add a pop of fuchsia and i LOVE this fun cactus…perfect for a fiesta theme! you could line up a row of real potted cactus or succulents for a fun alternative!
across from the table, i set out a fun snack for my family…
i love keeping it simple…but that doesn’t mean it can’t be festive! just by serving snacks on some platters and stands can make a huge difference! simple party supplies like paper banners, paper straws, and cute napkins can be really easy ways to dress up a treat table…and economically too! i mixed a variety of leftover straws and used some colorful juice glasses for serving a simple pitcher of water!
some extra leaves from the tassel banner look sweet tucked under the little appetizer plates. a really fun and easy detail!
you know me and purchased treats! i love them for helping to whip up something festive in a pinch…and if you’ve got kids, you may have plenty in your fridge or freezer already!
frozen taquitos are a favorite with my boys…
lining them up on a little tray with some sprigs of parsley make them look grand! and little cups of salsa verde yogurt dressing make a tasty and healthy dip…
and for a special treat, i made mini, layer dip bowls! how cute are these chips filled with favorite toppings…
see how easy they are to make…
i found these blue scoops at Fresh Thyme Farmer’s Market but you can use your favorite scoop chip to hold the fillings!
a little dollop of seasoned shredded beef was the base for our chips…
and i just layered on more favorites…
and look how cute they turned out!
you literally can use any of your favorite fillings and they will be soooo good! i think these might be a staple party food in my house from now on!
a variety of cookies that i often already have in the pantry add an effortless touch of sugar to the table!
it never has to be difficult to create a festive snack…for a house full of guests or just your family!
have an easy mini fiesta!
