I think it’s pretty typical in November to be mindful of all the things we’re thankful for. The Thanksgiving holiday is a nice reminder of what we should be doing all the year…counting our blessings, even in those times when they can be seemingly absent. The fact is, no matter the situation, there’s always something to be thankful for…a kind smile from a friend, family that stands behind you, the chance to enjoy another day! And I’ve also been trying to see each annoying hiccup in life as a moment to search for a blessing in there somewhere…kind of like the cup half-full attitude. So for me, November is the cue to remind myself not just to be thankful at our traditional feast, but ALL the year through…or at least give it my best shot! And with this thought in the front of my mind, I geared one of my DIY projects to tie right in! So today I’m going to share my November centerpiece designed for us all to share a thankful thought or two…
counting blessings big & small…
one of our family traditions at Thanksgiving is to write down our thankful thoughts and display them somehow at our holiday meal. this year i thought i’d try to incorporate our thankful cards into the centerpiece…and this gave me the perfect opportunity for a diy project! when i came across the 3d, die cut tree (from Joann Stores) and the glitter collection (from Target)…i knew exactly what i wanted to do!
there’s just something about a touch of glitter…
i love the colors in this kit, and even though the sparkly bottles are small, a little glitter goes a LONG way! to keep it simple, i just glittered a random selection of leaves…i like the mix of sparkle and the naked wood!
i took the paper leaves, which are actually gift tags, and replaced the strings with short sections of velvet ribbon. i did need to make a larger hole with a paper punch to get the ribbon through…
putting it all together…
a thankful message…
my lazy susan made a great base for the display so that the entire centerpiece can be easily turned. now each guest at the table can reach a “fallen leaf” to write a thankful thought and place it back to share! i simply used a cup filled with moss to hold the tiny, glittered tree in place…
and scattered the paper leaves across the base along with a couple ink pens…
the pieces of ribbon not only look pretty but help to hold up the leaves so they don’t lie flat…
you might notice that i didn’t include any of the pretty peach ribbons in the display. they just didn’t blend nicely with the orange shades of the tiny gourds…a reminder that sometimes you have to tweak your ideas! now i can use the peachy leaves in another room simply scattered across tables or tucked into urns! for now, the brown ones will get the chance to become thankful reminders…
i can’t wait to see what they’ll say! big or small…we can be thankful for them all!!
