Fiesta time is just around the corner…and I’m so excited for Cinco de Mayo celebrations and the food that goes with them! But as much as I love a good fiesta, May 5 is a busy time with spring sports, the school year wrapping up, and all the endless yard work! Today I’m going to share some really easy ways to kick up your heels without much fuss! Simple food ideas and DIY party decorations can help you throw a festive gathering that looks like a custom event! Even if you’re pressed for time, you can find everything you need at most grocery & party stores. A few “extras” will make your semi-homemade munchies AND decor look like a million! Let’s get ready to celebrate the 5th of May…or any taco Tuesday!
it’s time for a fiesta!
a combination of simple decorations & treats make this party feel extra festive!
it’s easy to spruce up purchased decor to match your color palette or theme. i gave these mini pinatas a makeover with simple craft supplies…
a little fabric trim, silk blooms, poms, yarn…what ever you have will work to customize your decorations!
there’s no rules, just have fun and you’ll have cute party decorations to make your event unique to you!
style a simple buffet!
once you’ve chosen your decor you can set up your spread. tucking the mini pinatas throughout added extra fun & whimsy!
plastic pots (without drainage holes) make cute, casual ice buckets for some sparkling margaritas…
they’re small so i used two…one on each side of the buffet. a vase filled with colorful straws also makes a useful decoration!
Cinco de Mayo inspired sweets!
you don’t have to get fancy to serve delicious. add some cinnamon to your favorite vanilla cupcake recipe (or box mix) and you’re on your way to churro cupcakes…
frost with cream cheese frosting with a pinch of cinnamon, a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar, and top with crunchy churro bites!
i used cinnamon twists from Taco Bell for my cakes…and i kind of love how they look AND taste!
cactus cookies make a colorful addition to the dessert table…and if you’re not a trained cookie decorator, let some sprinkles do the work for you!
candy shred looks just like prickly spines and is the easiest way to decorate these cookies! frost, sprinkle, serve!!
the DIY embellishments on the pinata add a pop of color & contrast on the cookie pedestal! a reminder that the simplest details can make a big impact!
self-serve street tacos!
setting up a simple savory spread is easy too! food that allows guests to easily help themselves is always a win in my book!
a tray filled with the fixins for street tacos is a fun way to serve a holiday favorite!
scatter the tortillas in your tray and add your favorite meat. you can use steak, chicken, fish, or pork…
street tacos should be easy to grab and eat so no messy toppings necessary. i just added thin red onion…
cotija or feta cheese…
fresh cilantro…
and limes for squeezing! doesn’t get much easier!
so whether you serve savory, sweet or both…
throw a festive party your friends will…
“taco” about!
