Happy Friday everyone! Valentine’s Day is just over a month away…but it’s never too early to start thinking about fun holiday crafts! I have a really easy project today that anyone can create…really! I was inspired by some friends on Instagram who shared how to make a festive Valentine wreath…and I merely put my own twist on it. I love to be motivated this way…in fact, we’re all inspired in one way or another by those we admire or creations we see on all the wonderful media outlets we have to gaze upon! I hope you too can find some inspiration today to recreate this craft or change it up to make it just right for you! So take a look at this simple and seasonally festive DIY that will steal even Cupid’s heart!
shot through the heart!
what you need:
1 medium, heart-shaped wreath form
1-2 feather boas
twine
paper straws
craft paper (even scraps will do)
glue gun
let’s get started…
i found this wire form at Walmart for under $3! it’s hard to measure a heart but this form is approximately 16″ from the highest portion on top to the point on the bottom.
i had two pink, feather boas from Oriental Trading Company, but you can find them locally at Walmart or most party & craft stores. i used one for each side of the form, tying an end of the boa to the point and wrapping it around until it covered half the form. with another piece of twine tie the other end to hold it in place. then i just repeated the other side! you can slide it around a bit to cover any piece of the form that might show…and that’s it! if you want to add an arrow you can…
simple arrow construction…
i used three paper straws and scraps of craft paper to create the shape of my arrow. depending on the size of your form you may need more or less
with a glue gun, squirt a blob of glue on the ends of the straws and stick them together. wipe any excess glue off with a paper towel before it sets. don’t worry too much about that part because the seams will be hidden by the feathers.
at this point you can also glue on the tail pieces of the arrow…
then, this part is important: thread the straws through the feather-wrapped form BEFORE gluing on the point of the arrow! (otherwise you’ll have a very mangled looking tip!) you can also wait to glue the tail pieces once you thread the straws…either way, just be sure to leave one end unadorned so you can push it through the feathers!
hang and enjoy your creation!
mini versions would be fun for a classroom project too! foam forms would make it easy for little hands to wrap and secure with a pin! no arrow necessary!
happy DIY day everyone!
i’d love to see some of your creations…let’s keep the inspiration flowing!
