The second cool breezes begin to blow I’m haulin’ out the hot cocoa fixins! My boys have always been partial to the steamy chocolate with piles of gooey marshmallows melting on top…so I guess I get a little excited and nostalgic about serving the stuff! Even on a cool summer evening we’ve been known to break out the mugs to take the chill off! And since we had a very busy Saturday this past weekend…I thought a piping cup of cocoa around the fire might be a wonderful treat for the boys after a LONG day of activities! (and a great excuse to keep everyone around for a minutue to talk about their day!) I’ve been waiting to use my Home Goods skeleton mugs for just such an occasion…and since Halloween is just a couple weeks away, I found just the right treats to make some fun holiday brews!
holiday hot chocolate!
this time of year i try to grab a big container of cocoa mix to keep on hand…this way i’m almost always ready to whip up a quick cup. and since this was a special treat for my boys (who both had a full day of commitments and games), i found some great treats to add some Halloween fun! piled it on a tray–and waited for everyone to get home…
great thing about cocoa mix…i can throw the powder in the mug and when everyone’s ready, i just bring out a carafe of hot milk (or water) and the drinks will be good to go!
these stripey spoons are so cute AND disposable!
a quick print at the computer and the tray somehow looks extra special! not that signage is necessary…
but i sure think it’s fun!
now for some “stirs” & “sprinkles”…
i LOVE Peeps! these gravestones make adorable stir-sticks that will melt that familiar sugary sweetness right into the drink!
or maybe the chocolate covered type…the pumpkin mallows needed a small slit with a kitchen knife to get the stick inserted without cracking the coating–but it was still easy to do!
and i love these mini marshmallows from a can! (find ’em in the cocoa isle at the grocer) they taste like the ones in cereal…so if you’re a fan of those, you’ll LOVE these!
the little bistro table by our fire pit is a great spot for treats of all sorts…but this night it’s all about the cocoa!
just like the skull garland i featured last week…the jack-o-lanterns make a sweet addition to my window outside and a fun & easy display to hang over my cocoa tray!
so even though the weather is still warm during the day…the evening air is just calling for a toasty cup of cocoa!
