It’s Time for a Fiesta!

Tomorrow is the 5th of May–Cinco De Mayo!  I’d mentioned on Monday how busy the month of May can be…and it seems like there’s more than enough on everyone’s plate these days when it comes to every member of my family!  As the kids have gotten older it just seems commonplace to be super busy, something I’m SLOWLY getting used to!  None-the-less, I’m determined to have a Cinco De Mayo celebration and have been preparing my decorations for days now!  So I’m sharing the fiesta fun that will brighten our table tomorrow…and since everything was already prepared, I took a trial run so I could snap some pics before hand!  I hope you can find some inspiration from my holiday decor–have a peek at our

Cinco De Mayo celebration!

it might seem crazy to do a trial run…but this is a testament to just how easy it can be to set up a holiday table if you prepare the decorations ahead!  when i was done with the photos, i just piled everything up in a tray (with the exception of the food which went back in the fridge!) and there it will wait until the real deal on Thursday!  of course, i hung the balloon chandelier after i made it…and i’ve really enjoyed the festivity!

so to get started, i found the colorful silly straws in the party favor section at Target…i thought they’d make a whimsical addition to the table!

and i also found these flowers at Michael’s to add to the centerpiece.  you won’t believe when i tell you they’re made out of soap!  i just ADORE the colors…and when our celebration is over they’ll go directly in a pretty dish for the bathroom!  another reminder to look beyond what the intended use of an item is…

who says you can’t use soap in a centerpiece?

another really easy table decoration and one of my personal favorites…paper!  large sheets of decorator paper from craft stores are wonderful for customizing a party table for pennies compared to full-on table cloths or fancy runners.  you can use them as place mats, makeshift runners, or just create a pattern across the tabletop!

a few sheets won’t break the budget…and you can craft with them afterwards!  i also love large confetti…it looks so festive and is much easier to clean up than the traditional version!

i even think these cute napkins (from Home Goods) look like they’re sprinkled with confetti…and i used some to layer on top of the paper for more color, contrast, and confetti fun…

some digging in the bargain bins at Michael’s turned up not just the table confetti but some colorful letters to use as place cards!

the more color the better!

and while my family waits for our Mexican meal…they can nibble on some simple munchies!

chips, salsa, and some prepared taquitos make easy appetizers!

snack buffet

i didn’t buy any extra decorations for the buffet…i just used the leftover party supplies to add some color.  a couple balloons shoved into the cloche almost mimic oversized jelly beans…

and i have to admit i’m kind of loving the skull this way…

we’ve enjoyed the decorations since last week…the canvas for an easy set-up on Thursday!

so when tomorrow arrives…the room will be ready for quick festivity!

balloons, paper, simple food, and inexpensive party supplies can altogether create a fun, hassle free fiesta!  it may look like you killed yourself to pull it off…but how easy it actually was will be our little secret!
