Yay! The weekend was filled with glimpses of summer! Finally warm weather was here for more than a day…and over the weekend no less! So this arrival of southern breezes got me scrambling to have a gathering around the fire pit…the first of many I hope! Several school & neighborhood friends of my youngest made up a lively group for celebrating a warm spring evening! When planning something at the last minute, I never worry too much about appearances…especially for gatherings of kids–they’re just happy to eat & play! But it’s pretty simple to whip up some little details that can make just about anything look better than it really is! And since the Giggle Spring Show was on Thursday, I had some dessert servers and food labels ready to be re-purposed for a group of S’mores lovers!
getting ready for a last minute gathering…
i have this great old table on casters that i can roll just about any where! and when kids are involved, s’mores in the grass is a much easier clean-up than on the patio! for the food & supplies i merely grouped some containers from the kitchen and garden to hold all the goodies!
same label from the Giggle party…just changed the tape!
a tin bucket comes in handy for so many things…i have several! find them in the paint section of big box stores–and they’re so inexpensive! they can hold sidewalk chalk to office supplies…and this time, potato chips! i also love to use sheets of parchment paper for tucking into containers not typical for serving food! (of course lunch sacks or napkins will do the trick too!)
a watering can to hold roasting sticks…
right before guests arrive…
fill up the trays with summertime fixins’!
a wire basket makes a great trash bin…
and keeps the yard from being littered with candy wrappers!
sips, straws…and s’mores!
as the sun starts to sink…spirits are bright with good friends enjoying a warm weather treat! and even though it was a last minute thought…it still can look just as special as the people who enjoy it!
celebrate the last minute gathering!
