Even though winter has really just begun…I’m ready for some spring color! Maybe it’s because the weather has been so warm and the grass in our backyard is actually still green? Maybe the thermometer has given the false impression that spring is just around the corner? Or maybe the festivity of the holiday has merely spilled over making me want to keep everything happy and bright? I’m not sure the real reason! And even though I LOVE hunkering down indoors during the long winter nights I guess there’s no rule that states I can’t do that while surrounded by some cheerful hues! So with the thought of Valentines Day on the distant horizon I added some pinks & purples just to make me smile! I absolutely love tissue paper tassels and poms for making a room look whimsical and festive! Mostly we think of using them for parties…but why wait for a celebration to perk up your spaces, right? They’re easy and inexpensive to make…and now you can buy kits that have them practically put together for you! So if you’re feeling the need for some colorful cheer…let some tassels & poms brighten your spaces!
whimsical, winter color…
this tissue paper tassel kit (from Target) was calling my name…i loved the colors to brighten my sun room and get a rather early jump start to Valentines Day! the sheets came cut to perfection so a tassel mishap is practically impossible!
when working with tissue paper you do need to be gentle or you’ll rip the fragile paper to shreds…so if you’re feeling a tad impatient, you might want to shelve the project for a more relaxed day! just snip the bound edge with some scissors and find a place to lay out the sheets so they don’t get all tangled up…the back of a chair works!
separate a sheet and roll it up…
and don’t worry if the strands get a bit tangled…give a shake and they’ll fall right into place!
then gently twist the tube so it’s tight and fold it into a loop…
after it’s twisted together, use a piece of tape to hold it in place…and if you rip a few off in the process not to worry, you’ll never notice when the tassel is finished–really!
string them on the twine provided and you’ve got a festive garland!
to top the mantle i picked up a craft store “love” sign and coated it with glitter…an easy way to make a custom color to match my garland!
i did mention poms didn’t i?
when i picked up the tassel kit i also found some adorable tissue paper in colors that matched my room and complimented the garland. i always keep a cluster of paper poms and globes suspended from the light fixture in that room so i made a couple new ones to hang with the bunch and tie all the colors together!
LOVE!
check in on monday as i’ll show the simple step-by-step instructions to make your own tissue poms in various sizes! this one is really easy to do and will save you tons! i’d buy the tassel kit but definitely skip the pom kit and make ’em by hand…
whether for a celebration, a holiday, or just because–
