I’m getting so excited for my little family soiree on the 5th! And as I mentioned last week, the beginning of May is packed with events…May Day, Cinco De Mayo, and Mother’s Day, making it hard to find time for all three! But this year I’m determined to do it even though I also have the job of heading up the decorating committee for our school’s After Prom Party the weekend following Mother’s Day! When you’ve got tons on your calendar it helps to prepare as much as you can before hand! I really try to complete as many of my decorations ahead of time regardless of my schedule…it makes for an almost stress free set-up! So with all these events looming, I’ve been working a little ahead for just about all of them! Today I want to share another easy centerpiece that will compliment my balloon chandelier that I made last week…and it’s still looking good! My Cinco De Mayo table is going to be festively colorful so what better to sit in the center than a tiny pinata!
fill a pinata…without candy!
i really want to have my holiday table filled with whimsy…and mini pinatas are just the right size for a colorful centerpiece to sit beneath the balloons!
and since i’m not intending on having the boys smash it…there will be no candy involved! instead, i decided to use an alternative filler…flowers!
a small bouquet from my yard is a lovely and inexpensive choice! i just found a tiny vessel that could fit down inside the opening of the pinata…
i just removed the tags and string from the back, cut the opening a tad bigger, and slipped it down inside. you could use a spice jar, a juice glass…anything that will fit!
i decided to include some air plants that my parents brought back from Florida for the boys. i love the way they look like a palm…a plant you would see in Mexico!
fill the vessel with water and stick in the flowers…so easy!
another option…
i loved the idea of fresh flowers in the pinata…but i got to thinking that this may not be the arrangement to make several days ahead! some extra embellishments that i purchased for the table worked perfectly as a substitute for fresh blooms and even some additional fun for the tiny donkey…
i love these miniature sombreros from Party City…and the extra fiesta leis will make a festive embellishment!
a little hot glue and you’ve got a really festive hat!
and these cute cake picks from Target were intended for goodies…
but now find themselves combined with the air plants in a non-perishable arrangement! i think the donkey looks cute in his special sombrero, don’t you?
you can find air plants in some garden centers, especially the ones that sell hanging terrariums. (i found some locally at Nature’s Corner in Toledo) if you can’t find air plants, artificial options would make a great substitute for blooms that don’t die!
i can’t wait to put this party together!
get ready to fiesta!
i’m planning on sharing my simple party decor and where to get it on Wednesday…check in and get inspired for your Cinco De Mayo festivities!
