You know how much I like to create displays without spending money, right? You also know by now that most of my projects are ones that you can create with the help of family members…if you want! Sometimes you can kill two birds by keeping your kids busy or just creating family togetherness AND turning the outcome into a beautiful addition to the home! Well today I’ve got a good one…a project that potentially can cost close to zero and requires minimal supplies that you may have at home! Interested? If so, have the kids go find some simple rocks, grab some tape and a little paint…and turn a box of rocks into something wonderful!
the beauty of a rock…
once again i’m at it with the paint! i just can’t help myself! this project requires as little or as much paint as you want and the result will be the same! while my family was on vacation we gathered some interesting rocks on the beaches of Michigan…it seems that we all have the same weakness for gathering up natural elements when we’re traveling! last year it was driftwood, this year–rocks. it seemed a shame not to display them somehow…
there’s a lot of beauty in anything natural…sometimes it just needs a little enhancing! i decided to color block a couple of the stones just for fun…it only takes a bit of tape and paint, of course!
you can use whatever paint you’ve got…but spray is faster! i kept one stone with a single block of color, and made a simple stripe on the other. you could get as creative as you want here! the others were simply sprayed with a clear coat to enhance their natural beauty and interesting patterns…
once they were totally dry, i piled them up inside an urn with moss, which is actually a plant that died but retained its color…i truly try to recycle just about everything!
i also popped in this tiny potted succulent…just for fun and a touch of whimsy!
i love adding unexpected items…
but this natural arrangement certainly shines…with, or without the addition!
just because a bunch of rocks isn’t typically found in table decor doesn’t mean that they don’t deserve to be there! it’s an arrangement that’s perfect for the season and can last into fall…
so for very little green, you can turn a box of rocks…
