I’ve had several requests for the cobbler recipes we served at our centennial celebration…so today I’m sharing! One is a family recipe and the other two are recipes found online…and altered slightly. None are difficult and ALL are delicious, but your favorite will depend on the type of cobbler you love! Whether it’s an old fashioned crisp with a crunchy, crumbly topping, a traditional biscuit style blanketing the bubbly fruit, or a crispy, caramelized brulee on top of the berries…I’m pretty sure you’ll find one that’ll please! So print one recipe or all three…I’m sharing cobblers today!
pick your favorite…
i’ll start with the apple crisp…this was a no-brainer when it came down to deciding what to bake! it’s my family’s favorite apple pie filling…just baked without a crust this time!
my grandma’s apple filling is a recipe for a traditional pie, but if you’re making a crisp just eliminate the crust! if you use a 9×13 inch pan you’ll need to triple the recipe for the filling and double the recipe for the crumble. and without a crust, the crisp will take a little less time to bake. i often freeze the pie fillings in plastic containers so i always have the makings for a dessert on hand! you can also make the crumble and freeze it in storage bags…then you’ll REALLY have everything you need already prepared! check out this easy recipe…
- 4 Cups sliced apples combination of Granny Smith and Jonathan
- 1 Cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/2 tablespoon cinnamon
- Put all ingredients in a sauce pan and cook over medium-low heat until the apples are cooked down and it becomes thick and bubbly. Add 2 Tablespoons butter and stir in until melted. Cool completely and freeze or use in a pie crust. If baking a pie, pour filling into a deep dish pie crust and top with crumble: 1/2 C brown sugar, 1/2 C flour, 1/2 C whole oats, and 5 Tablespoons cold butter cut up. Blend those ingredients with a pastry blender and top the pie filling.
- Bake pie at 350 degrees for 40 minutes or until topping is golden. For an apple crisp, place apple filling and crumble in a pie dish or small baking dish and bake for 30-35 minutes or until crumble is golden.
- For a crisp in a 9 x 13 size baking dish you will need to triple the filling recipe and double the crumble recipe.

the all-around favorite of the evening was the Triple Berry Crisp! the crispy, sugary coating on top reminded me a bit of the crusted sugar on a creme brulee! check out the Food Network favorite…
- 3 1/2 Cups mixed berries, fresh or frozen
- 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1 Cup All Purpose Flour
- 1 1/4 Cups sugar, divided
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 Cup milk
- 3 tablespoons butter, melted
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 Cup boiling water
- pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.
- combine berries and cinnamon in a 9 x 13 baking dish. Combine flour, 3/4 c. sugar, and baking powder in a mixing bowl and stir. Add milk and melted butter while stirring dry ingredients. Pour/drop batter mixture over the berries trying to cover all.
- combine cornstarch and 1/2 C sugar in a small mixing bowl and stir. Sprinkle mix over the entire pan. Remove boiling water from stove and slowly pour over the entire pan. Place the baking dish in the oven and bake for 45-50 minutes or until crust is golden. Some areas may appear whitish due to the sugar mix. Make sure top crust is nice and crispy, remove from oven and cool slightly. Serve warm
