Snow Day!

We asked for it and we got it–more snow!  In fact, almost bordering on a blizzard!  What was supposed to be the first day back to school has now turned into a much anticipated snow day!  However, the excitement of the school cancellation scrolling across the TV screen comes hand-in-hand with the challenge of filling those indoor hours that lie ahead!  Though a winter storm can be daunting, why not still celebrate the snowfall with some good, old-fashioned family activities that center around those lovely white flakes!  Since today happens to be a snow day, it’s the perfect opportunity to share some ideas to pass the indoor hours and…

…have some snow day fun!

make some inside snowflakes…

paper snowflakeswith simple supplies, anyone can make a paper snowflake!

get the whole family involved and string up some winter fun!

using plain computer paper and some scissors–fold the paper in to quarters, round off the edge and start cutting…scalloped scissors are fun but not necessary (and actually a bit harder for smaller hands to cut with).  no matter what you use, or how you cut the shapes, when you hang them all together… i guarantee you will like the outcome!

how about a snowball fight?

bring the winter fun inside with soft, foam snowballs!

jar of "snowballs"i bought a plastic tube of fake snowballs at our local Hallmark store and filled some containers with the fleecy fun!  if you can’t find them at your store you could easily substitute with pompoms, over-sized cotton balls, or loosely wadded up tissue paper–anything that won’t destroy your house in the process!

stack them in a cute container and you have a safe snowball game ready the moment you hear the words ” I’m bored” slip from the lips of cherubs!

another sweet snowflake treat sure to please…

cookies!

grab the cookie cutters and make a fun snack…this is a great time to use the gifted goodies we’ve received this season!  of course, made-from-scratch is always wonderful but i love to have store mixes on hand for a spur-of-the-moment cookie fix!
