Star spangled decor is always festive for patriotic celebrations! Starting with Memorial Day through the 4th of July, you’ll see lots of red, white & blue, stripes, AND stars! Today I want to focus on those five-pointed goodies with a few easy DIY ideas. We just enjoyed the “unofficial start of summer” festivities and I made some simple table decorations that will be perfect for the 4th too! You can make these DIY arrangements with faux or fresh flowers and simple supplies from your local craft store. So let’s get ready for the next round of patriotic fun!
star spangled florals!
the base for these arrangement examples starts with star shaped containers and floral foam. i’ll share some links to similar containers in the product guide.
faux & festive!
cut your foam block in half (if necessary) to make thinner sections. then press them onto the container so you can see the outline…
using a serrated knife, cut out the shapes so that the container is filled. it doesn’t have to be perfect!
with utility shears or nippers, clip off your choice of faux flowers and start inserting them into your foam…
keep the blooms fairly tight together…
until the base is completely covered! (i used approximately 10 artificial economy stems to create this one)
my artificial arrangement sits on my outdoor buffet. i might add some flags to the center for the fourth AND i think i may recycle it somehow for Christmas! a reminder to always think how you might get multiple purposes out of a project!
fresh cut fun!
if fresh flowers are your preference you can use the same idea with some minor tweaks like using wet foam or oasis. my containers weren’t completely water tight so i filled the center of my smaller star with foil…
oasis is required for this arrangement to keep the flowers moist. use the same process as the floral foam to fill your container…
wet the oasis until it’s saturated. pour off any excess water and you can start adding blooms…
you can cut and fill just like the faux example.
once you’re finished covering the base you can add a pop of color if you wish.
i chose blue delphinium…
decor tip:
you can use a toothpick to create holes in the oasis to make it easier to insert any delicate flowers. when choosing your blooms, try to find varieties with sturdier stems if possible.
simple and sweet!
now let me share how i used it!
patriotic table!
a casual BBQ was how we celebrated and i set a minimal table…but you know by now that never means non festive! the centerpiece was the star (literally)…
cuttings from the yard made pretty napkin details…
and tiny holiday bowls would hold the condiments for our burgers & dogs!
simple, star spangled decor!
4th of July will be here soon!

Love the clever idea of a star shaped centerpiece. You’ve got me thinking about what other shapes to use for a centerpiece.

Oh thank you! It was fun and other shapes would be readily available at craft stores!
