We’ve had a couple of warm days sprinkled in this April but generally speaking…it’s been cold! Wanting to wait no longer, I decided it was time to get some planting started and fortunately for me, my husband actually enjoys doing yard work! (which is more than I can say for myself!) But I really love the end result of gardening so I pulled on the gloves and boots for a day of getting dirty! Sunday started out a bit crisp but with the sun’s help the afternoon managed to be perfect yard-working weather! Cool enough to be comfortable working up a sweat but mild enough that fingers and toes weren’t numb! We hauled out the shovels, rakes and everything it takes to give the yard a nudge toward looking like it’s actually going to be May soon! Today I’d like to share the hints of spring that are fashionably late this year…but better late than never! The much anticipated arrival of blooms & blossoms got me motivated to spend…
Sunday afternoon in the gardens!
cheerful pink perennials for planting…
i’m going ahead with the annuals too…if it freezes again i guess i’ll be pulling out the blankets! the countdown is on…only a few more days until we’re safe from frost–or so they say!
tools for cleaning & hauling…
a pile of leaves removed…
makes way for new growth!
our clean-up may not be perfect but mother nature makes it look just right!
the wooded area on the perimeter of our yard is always full of spring surprises…
and offers plenty of these for starting those summer bonfires…
speaking of fire…
amazing how a whiff of wood smoke makes yard work seem more fun!
out came the lawn furniture…
this mate to a pair of chippy yellow chairs was an endless yard sale bargain last year…i can’t wait for august so i can go on the hunt again! and the red Adirondack was a giggle find way back when–i love that it still has some of its paint left!
some new plantings…
tiny blades of grass finally emerge from a space where an old tree used to stand. a sad day when we lost it–but it had to go for safety reasons and now we have room for change! these first little sprouts are a sure sign of new life and a new place to play in the yard!
another sign of spring…the redbud is budding…finally!
mini gnome gardens get cleaned up and ready for plantings…
i can’t resist these miniature gardens & can hardly wait to find the right tiny plantings to go in them!
and no one is living in the toad house yet…but the door is always open!
though we’re nowhere near finished…a Sunday afternoon in the gardens was just what we needed to encourage spring to take the lead! i certainly hope she sticks around for a while!
