As Christmas gets closer I can’t help but start thinking of wrapping those pretty packages! And while the holidays inspire me to re-vamp my wrapping supplies, i do try and keep these materials handy all year long! A while back one of my friends gave me a metal file drawer…I THINK that’s what it was! She was planning on making something with it but decided it might be a project that never saw the light of day…so I was lucky to get it! I think my plans for it were far less elaborate than what she was originally thinking…but it works perfectly for me to hold all my paper supplies! Making it more functional was pretty easy to do and it makes me happy that it has a new purpose in my home! Today I’d like to share with you this DIY project and how I organized my wrapping table…just in time for Christmas!
get ready to wrap it up!
this rustic metal drawer is just right for holding extra boxes, bags, and tissue paper…and with the simple addition of casters it easily rolls under my table and doesn’t take up any extra room!
with an ordinary electric drill it was fairly easy to attach large casters from the hardware store…
after marking where i wanted them to go, my husband was kind enough to drill the holes through the metal…
and then he just used the drill and metal screws to attach the wheels to the bottom. i could have probably done this part myself if we had self-tapping metal screws on hand. those apparently would go through the metal much more easily than the regular stainless ones! thought you might want to know–just in case you’re ever planning on putting screws in metal!
we flipped it over and now i’ve got a functional and unique rolling bin to hold whatever! a piece of cardboard cut to fit the bottom covers the points of the screws sticking up inside…i don’t want any fingers poked when reaching inside! i guess i’m easily pleased ’cause i LOVE this re-purposed drawer in my room!
what’s inside you might wonder?
i can even clip smaller bags & holiday stickers to the side…
organizing a few more supplies…
i couldn’t resist using this fuzzy bin for my holiday paper! it looks like Christmas to me!
on top of the table i use jewelry trays to keep tiny tags & clips organized and keep my spools of twine handy…
and a very old tool cabinet makes an interesting storage unit for all extra tags and tiny paper products!
the wonderful thing about wrapping supplies…they look adorable out in the open! no need to hide cute tags while they’re waiting to be used…go ahead and show them off!
get out the paper & string…
i love to have these items out in the open–it’s convenient and it looks so festive! even though wrapping Christmas gifts can be stressful…i really believe if you create a spot that’s semi-organized and handy the task will be so much more fun! if you don’t have a designated area for wrapping…grab a rolling cart, a tiny side table, a big basket or tray and make a space to wrap up some holiday joy! whimsical sign…optional!
