Spring brings with it lots of celebrations…and celebrations often go hand-in-hand with gifts and favors! Today I’d like to share a fun DIY project that will keep you at the ready for any festive event with hand painted tags to tie to all your presents! Whether you’re giving graduation gifts or simple offerings of thanks…these sweet tags will make anything look special! A fun project that most kids could do too…take a peek at how easy it is to create a tiny piece of art!
simple, pretty, and easy–watercolor tags…
all it takes is one to two tubes of watercolor (a child’s kit would also work and offer more colors inexpensively!) i nabbed tubes of blue and red from my son’s basic art kit! other supplies were as simple as a plastic cup, a brush, and a piece of parchment paper to cover my workspace…
pick up some plain mailing tags…i found heavier weight paper worked best and without a glossy coating or the paint won’t soak in well
add just enough color to the water so that you can slightly tint the tags. it looks darker in the cup than it is on the paper…but you can always add more! with a small paint brush swipe the color around on the tag…just blob it on, or let it drip…get creative and play around until you find what you like!
i also dabbed some of the tags with paper towel…you can re-apply several times if you want a layered look or just want it darker. after finishing the blue tags i squeezed some red into my cup to create some soft purple tones. the fun thing about this project is that each tag had varying shades and patterns of color…and they all looked great!
while they’re drying you may find that some curl up slightly from being wet…just gently bend them the opposite direction from the curl and lay them flat again to finish drying
…write any message once they’re completely dry!
i decided to try a gift bag too…while you have the paint out, why not?
a lovely addition to any gift…
so fun, so easy, and handcrafted by you! spread a little color around…and create some happy! watercolor tags…a great weekend DIY!
sweet springtime!
