It’s the first day of spring!! However, it still feels like the dead of winter! With over a 60 degree temperature difference on the same day last year, the official arrival of spring is a tad disappointing. I thought sharing this sweet DIY project might help bring some springtime smiles to this chilly day! Sarah and I love to find cute and simple ways to add charm to seasonal decorating…this adorable garland is not only super sweet but easy to create for some springtime cheer!
let’s craft…
with the most simple of supplies you can create this spring charmer…
you will need large yellow pompoms for the body-an assortment of smaller pompoms for between the chicks, & orange and yellow felt for the beak and wings…
blue & white twine–perfect for spring!
a pair of needle nose pliers is needed to bend the wires for the legs. these long pins (found in the jewelry making section of the craft stores) worked well. just take the pliers and bend the tip with the head into a loop or twist–remember, these are whimsical and there is no need for perfection!
if you choose you can paint the pins with some orange spray paint–sticking them in some Styrofoam helps.
simple shapes of felt are next…
using a large-eye needle, string your pompoms onto your twine…make sure you leave enough length on each end…placing your pompoms in the center of the entire length of twine.
we’re almost done…
hang the garland in your work space before you assemble the chicks. this will help them hang properly when you are done…
use your hot glue gun to attach the wings, legs, beaks & eyes.
(these eyes were made from the heads of pins.)
super cute–super easy–super inexpensive!
Welcome Spring!!
