If there’s one treat that seems to be a universal favorite, I might have to guess it could be the doughnut hole! Small, flavorful, bite-size, and festive…I don’t think there’s many out there that can resist just one, or two, or three! The perfect size for a sweet appetizer and small enough to lessen the guilt factor if you’re watching your sugar! So easy to make look fantastic on a dessert buffet (4th of July is coming…) and they’re available at any doughnut shop or bakery! So go ahead and pile them on for a party or an everyday treat…

’cause who doesn’t like a doughnut hole?

a simple but festive treat!

doughnut holes

it all started with a vintage wire egg basket…

wire egg rack

i found this sweet egg rack at an antique store after the Easter holiday. disappointed that i couldn’t display my eggs in it this year…i needed to come up with an alternative use for it and i wasn’t going to wait ’til next spring to display this fun find! as it turns out…it’s perfect for doughnut holes!

it just needed a simple tag…

and a festive topper!

you can make this easily with simple supplies…a balloon, a straw, and some string! just inflate the balloon until it’s just rounded. tie it off and attach some string to the end (i also clipped the end off of the balloon knot to help it slip through the straw more easily)

thread the string through the straw and pull tight so the balloon is perched on top. use tape to attach the string on the other end of the straw keeping it taut so the balloon sits upright. just clip off any excess string, turn it around, and you’ve got a fun & festive topper!

i used mini doughnuts in the top of the rack to support it in my doughnut tower! they worked great and are tasty too!

no matter how you display them…in a rack, dish, jar, basket, or cake stand–add some doughnut holes to your shopping list! these tiny little bites will be sure to please your family or guests for any occasion!

say “yay!” for doughnut holes! do you love them?
