I love wool…whether it’s a cheerful, plaid throw or fuzzy sweater, I’m pretty partial to those snuggly fibers! When I found these lovely little hearts a few years ago at Target, I just had to have them! At the time I purchased them they were part of a Valentine garland. It was completely adorable…but after I’ve used my decorations for a while, I try to recycle them into something different! What I love most about re-purposing my favorite things is that I can hang on to them a little longer AND create something new and fresh! This garland had been used in my Valentine displays for several years and it was time to give new life to these sweet, wooly hearts! So I decided to cut them apart. How cute would they be as fuzzy tags on a gift or maybe adorning my candy jars? I really wanted to find a new place for these colorful little guys…so they had a slight reformation for the holiday!
happy, wool hearts…
after i decided to cut apart the Valentine garland, i had plenty of these wonderful little hearts to scatter around my home! i love the array of color…they remind me of those traditional conversation hearts in multitudes of color sporting their sweet messages! that was the inspiration for attaching them to my candy jars…now i just needed to get them ready for hanging.
one thing i love to keep on hand in my crafting supplies is a darning needle…a large needle that has an eye that can handle threading heavier string or twine. it REALLY comes in handy when trying to create garlands or, in this case, making individual ornaments to hang!
i used hemp twine to thread through the wool hearts so that i could tie them onto all sorts of things…
since the conversation hearts were what inspired me, it made sense to hang these guys on all of my Valentine candy jars! some quick tags from the computer and i have a new way to display these hearts in a whimsical way…
i really like to use food labels…and since i make them a lot i sometimes like to play with the wording!
a cluster of apothecary jars with hearts & tags is a simple but festive Valentine display…and it tastes good too! some shiny battery lights (from the Target dollar spot) add some festive sparkle!
by re-purposing these guys i saved some cash AND kept a favorite but well used decoration around for years to come! my treasured wool hearts have a new role for the holiday this year…
